CASPER, Wyo. - Two University of Wyoming rodeo team members kicked off the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) on Sunday with solid showings during the event’s opening “Bulls, Broncs & Breakaway” matinee performances at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.
The CNFR will run all week and features the top collegiate rodeo athletes in the country. Sunday marked the first round of action for several UW athletes.
McNamee Starts Strong in Breakaway
Jordyn McNamee of Buffalo, Wyoming, roped her calf in 2.9 seconds (Go 1, Sec 4). McNamee's time was good enough for 16th overall in the round by the end of the day.
Farrow Posts Re-Ride Score in Bareback
Colton Farrow of Greybull, Wyoming took a re-ride opportunity in bareback riding (Go 1, Sec 3). He scored 70.0, which ranks him 21st in the opening round.
Tough Luck for Three Cowboys
Sunday also brought some tough luck.
Landry Haugen of Sturgis, South Dakota, came up empty-handed in her breakaway roping run (Go 1, Sec 3), recording a no time.
Bull riding can be challenging, and it certainly was on Sunday. Both Emmit Ross (Go 1, Sec 3) of Jackson, Wyoming, and Stefan Tonita (Go 1, Sec 2) from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, were both bucked off before the whistle, resulting in no scores.
The CNFR continues with daily performances and slack rounds throughout the week, culminating in Saturday’s championship short go.
