LARAMIE, Wyo. – Hansen Arena in Laramie, Wyoming, was full of excitement last weekend as the University of Wyoming Rodeo Team hosted the Laramie River Rendezvous, the final regular-season event on the schedule for the Central Rocky Mountain Region branch of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. UW swept both team titles and piled up points.
Â
Wyoming won the men’s team title with 800 total points, a large margin ahead of second-place Gillette College (485) and Laramie County Community College and Sheridan College (410). On the women’s side, the Cowgirls also finished first with 388.33 points, ahead of second-place Gillette College (310) and Colorado State (120), capping a complete weekend for the Brown and Gold.

UW athletes Traven Sharon and Landry Haugen were named all-around Cowboy and Cowgirl of the Laramie River Rendezvous. Sharon claimed the men’s all-around title with 210 points, while Haugen took the women’s all-around standings with 228.33 points. Both took home electric scooters as prizes.
Â
Speaking of electric, the electric atmosphere from the crowd matched the performance on the dirt in the arena, as Saturday night’s performance was sold out, with many areas standing room only.
Â
Wyoming took first in multiple rodeo events. Colton Farrow won the bareback event, while Sharon took first in tie-down roping. The team roping duo of Treg Thorstenson and Rio Nutter added another victory as well.
Â
On the women’s side, Makenzi Scott is having a strong late-season push as she tied for first in barrel racing, leading a group effort that also included Layni Stevens placing third and Haugen in fourth place.
Â
Haugen’s all-around performance stood out. In addition to her barrel racing finish, she placed third in breakaway roping, sixth in goat tying, and she also contributed in team roping alongside teammate Olivia Lay.

Goat tying saw Kassidy Dunagan finish fifth, while breakaway roping included Lay placing
eighth.
Â
Malcom Heathershaw took second in saddle bronc riding.
Â
The Cowboys also loaded the leaderboard in steer wrestling. Colby Runner led the group with a third-place finish, followed by Sam Gallagher at fourth, Thayne Kimbrough placing fifth, and Jaxson Mirabal at seventh.
Â
Mirabal also added points in team roping, finishing sixth alongside Jacob Wang, while Landry Haugen and Olivia Lay combined for another placing in the event.
Â
Tie-down roping saw additional production for Wyoming, as David Gallagher added a fifth-place finish, giving the Cowboys two top-five finishers.
The top three athletes in each event on the season are qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR). UW qualified thirteen athletes for the national stage.
Â
Wyoming controlled the weekend while winning both team titles, sweeping the all-around honors, and placing competitors across nearly every event. Now all eyes are set on the CNFR, which will be held in Casper, Wyoming, in June.Â
