Wyoming QB Tyler Hughes Among 175 Nominees for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

LARAMIE, Wyo. (July 20, 2026) – University of Wyoming quarterback Tyler Hughes has earned national recognition for his work off the field, as Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced Monday that Hughes is among the 175 nominees for the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The prestigious award recognizes college football student-athletes and head coaches from every level of the sport who demonstrate outstanding commitment to community service, academic achievement and leadership away from the playing field.
Hughes, a senior quarterback who transferred to Wyoming from William & Mary, has quickly become a leader for the Cowboys both on and off the field since arriving in Laramie. The veteran signal caller is expected to lead Wyoming's offense during the 2026 season after bringing extensive experience and leadership to the program.
His nomination continues Wyoming's recent tradition of being represented on the prestigious list. Quarterback Evan Svoboda was nominated in 2025, while offensive lineman Will Pelissier earned the honor in 2024.
Hughes has been active in the community since joining the Cowboys earlier this year. Wyoming student-athletes combined to record more than 2,600 hours of community service during the past academic year, with Hughes contributing to several outreach efforts across the state.
Among those efforts was volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club during a youth football camp in Casper alongside fellow Wyoming quarterback Mason Drube, where the pair spent time teaching and encouraging young athletes.
Hughes also participated in the Cowboys' partnership with "Get in the Game," an initiative encouraging individuals to register as potential donors through the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). During an event held in the Wyoming Union in April, 113 people volunteered to provide cheek swabs and have their DNA added to the NMDP registry in just a few hours.
In addition to those events, Hughes has taken part in several other community outreach initiatives since arriving in Laramie, further demonstrating the leadership and service that helped earn him a place among this year's Good Works Team nominees.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes college football student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service, academics and athletics. Established in 1992 and presented by Allstate since 2008, the program honors players who use their platforms to strengthen communities and support causes important to them.

This year’s nominees are tackling a wide range of challenges in communities across the United States and beyond. Their efforts include youth mentorship, maternal health awareness, disability inclusion, childhood cancer research, clean water access and support for military veterans.
About the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.

About the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, a member of the National College Football Awards Association, is college football’s premier award for community service. The trophy is presented annually by the Wuerffel Foundation to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership and performance on and off the field.
