LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming head coach Jay Sawvel provided an update on quarterback Kaden Anderson after the sophomore took a tough hit late in the Cowboys’ 31-7 win over Northern Iowa last Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
“Kaden Anderson is fine,“ Sawvel said.
“There’s nothing concussion. There was none of that, nothing shoulder, nothing arm, none of that type of thing,” Jay said.
Sawvel explained that Anderson’s evaluation went beyond the usual surface checks.
Anderson was checked for mid to upper body injuries and internal issues at Ivinson Memorial Hospital following the game.
“I saw him this morning. He was doing range of motion work in the training room and the whole deal. He’ll throw at practice today. The anticipation is if he’s not in full practice today, he probably will be tomorrow.”
The news was a fresh sigh of relief following the scare from Saturday.
With 1:12 left in the third quarter, Kaden Anderson went down on a violent midsection hit by UNI cornerback Jonathan Cabral-Martin, which caused Anderson to lose the football in the process. Anderson was escorted to the sideline by medical staff. Backup quarterback Landon Sims took over quarterback duties for the remainder of the game.
Kaden Anderson had an outstanding start to the day prior to the hit, passing for 17 completions on 23 attempts for 167 total yards and two touchdowns.
“We’re all very fortunate that it wasn’t anything more than what it was,” he said. “The expectation would be that he’ll be starting this Saturday unless there’s some kind of setback...”
The Cowboys are set to face the 20th-ranked Utah Utes this Saturday at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
