LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Wyoming is ranked fifth in the 2026-27 Mountain West men’s basketball preseason poll, placing the Cowboys in the top half of the conference’s 10-team field.

The poll, selected by conference media members, gave Wyoming 116 points. The Cowboys finished nine points behind fourth-place UNLV and 17 points ahead of sixth-place Hawai‘i.

New Mexico was picked to win the league with 179 points, narrowly edging Grand Canyon’s 178. Grand Canyon received 10 first-place votes, while New Mexico received nine, giving the Lopes the most first-place selections despite finishing second overall.

Nevada was picked third with 148 points, followed by UNLV with 125.

Wyoming enters the season coming off an 18-win campaign and an appearance in the National Invitation Tournament. It marked the Cowboys’ first postseason appearance since 2021-22 and their first trip to the NIT since 2003.

The Cowboys return four players who account for more than 45 percent of last season’s scoring and 40 percent of its rebounding. That returning production gives Wyoming an experienced foundation as it looks to build on last season’s postseason berth.

Hawai‘i was picked sixth, followed by San José State, UC Davis, UTEP and Air Force.
