Wyoming Comes Up Short in Offensive Shootout with Nevada, 92-83

RENO, Nev. (Jan. 10, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowboys dropped an offensive showcase to Nevada on Saturday evening by a score of 92-83 inside the Lawlor Event Center in Reno, Nev. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, but the Wolf Pack dropped the Cowboys to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

"If you don't back your defense and rebounding it is going to be a long night," UW head coach Sundance Wicks said. "It is all about defense every night and I have been preaching that since we got back from break. In this league you have to defend, and you can't defend in your one on ones it is hard."

The Pokes were led by Nasir (Naz) Meyer with a career-high 27 points for his 11th game this season in double-figures and his third game with 20 or more points. He added 10 made free throws in the contest. Leland Walker added 14 points for his 11th game in double-figures and the 64th of his career. Gavin Gores added 10 points for his second game in double figures this season, as he tied a career high. Uriyah Rojas added 11 points for his fourth game in double-figures this season.

 



The Pokes shot 52 percent from the field on the night, but the Wolf Pack responded with 61 percent from the field. Nevada added 10 threes on the night and shot 63 percent, as UW added eight and shot 44 percent. Nevada took the advantage on the glass 28-22 with the Wolf Pack taking a 38-32 advantage in the paint.

The Wolf Pack scored on their first four trips down the floor to take a 10-5 lead in the opening minutes. Meyer and Gores added back-to-back buckets to make a one-point game at 10-9. Nevada extended the lead to 15-11 hitting their fourth three of the game with just over 14 minutes left in the first half.

The Cowboys made it a one-point contest against, but a quick couple buckets by Corey Camper Jr. of the Wolf Pack made it a 21-16 game with 10:55 left in the first half. Bennett added a corner three, as part of three-straight makes by the Pokes for a 25-24 lead for the Brown and Gold with under eight minutes left in the half.

Nevada would retake the advantage by three points with under six minutes left in the half and pushed it to six points at 34-28, as UW went without a basket for over four minutes. Damarion Dennis added a bucket ending the streak and was followed by a Rojas' three and an and-one transition layup from Walker made it a 36-34 game with 80 seconds left in the half, as it was an 8-0 run for the Pokes.

The Wolf Pack would tie the game and take the lead, but Bennett added another three pointer for the Cowboys to take a 39-38 lead at the half. Wyoming shot 58 percent from with field in the first half with 52 percent coming from the Wolf Pack.

Nevada wasted little time taking back the lead using a 5-0 run to open the second half, but a three pointer from Meyer made it a 43-42 game in favor of the Wolf Pack. Gores would tie the game with a layup off an offensive rebound for a 45-45 game with 17 minutes left.

Kiani Saxon would add a basket for a 52-51 lead for the Pokes with 15 minutes left on the clock. Nevada would use the free throw line to take the lead and build a 58-54 advantage with just over 13 minutes left. Meyer added another triple as the shot clock expired and made it a one-point game.

The teams would trade threes, as a quick five-point lead by Nevada was pushed to two as Rojas got to double-figures for a 65-63 game with 10:34 left in the game. The Wolf Pack followed with a 5-0 run and took 70-63 lead.

The hot shooting continued for the Wolf Pack hitting 7-of-9 for a 77-68 lead with six minutes left. The Pokes got it to five points on a steal and score by Dennis, but Nevada would push the lead to 84-72 with four minutes left.

Wyoming used the free throw line to make it a nine-point game with just over two minutes left, but the Wolf Pack held on and improved to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the 92-83 victory.

The Wolf Pack were led by Camper Jr. with 31 points. Elijah price added a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Tayshawn Comer added 10 points and 10 assists also adding a double-double.

The Cowboys return to action on Wednesday hosting San Diego State in the Arena-Auditorium for a 6 p.m. MT start.
