ARLINGTON, Texas (Nov. 11, 2025) – UT Arlington shot the ball well from 3-point range both to begin the game and to begin the second half and kept the Wyoming offense in check as the Cowgirls lost in their road opener, 64-44, Tuesday night. The Lady Mavs, who entered the game shooting just 23.5 percent from beyond the arc as a team, hit 10-of-15 from deep in the contest.
Wyoming got off to a slow start to begin the game as UT Arlington came out hot, hitting its first three 3-pointers, forcing an early Cowgirl timeout, as UW trailed 14-4. Out of the timeout, the Cowgirls found their footing on both ends, closing the first quarter on a 10-2 run and trailing just 16-14 after one.
In the second, both teams slowed down offensively as Wyoming couldn’t quite overtake the Lady Mavs in the quarter. The Cowgirls did tie it once, at 23-23 with 4:11 left to play in the half. From there, however, UW failed to score the rest of the half as UTA got the last two baskets before the break to take a 28-23 lead into halftime.
Much like they did to begin the game, UT Arlington came out firing to start the third, scoring the first eight points of the half to push the lead back to double digits. By the time Wyoming started to get the offense going a bit, the Lady Mavs continued their hot shooting as they built as large as a 14-point lead before the media timeout. Out of the timeout, the Cowgirls would trim the deficit to 10 but wouldn’t get any closer the rest of the quarter as UTA finished the third strongly and led 49-34 going to the fourth.
The Cowgirls got the first hoop of the fourth quarter before the Lady Mavs answered right back. Wyoming played strong enough defense in the fourth to get back into it but couldn’t get the offense going and turned the ball over too much. Following a media timeout, the Cowgirls had plenty of solid looks to shrink the deficit, but could only get to within 15 down the stretch.
Madi Symons scored a career-high 10 points in the loss, marking the first time in her career that she has scored in double figures. Symons had a strong all-around game, pulling down seven rebounds and recording four assists on the night. Malene Pedersen led the Cowgirls with 11 points in the loss, while Logann Alvar scored seven and grabbed four boards. Payton Muma led UW off the bench with seven of her own. Liv Blomkvist and Aurore Eyango also scored the first points of their careers with Wyoming in the loss.
UTA shot 49 percent from the floor and 67 67-percent from beyond the arc on the night. The Cowgirls shot just 33 percent (18-54) and went 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) from deep. Wyoming did have 12 assists on the night, despite the low number of made field goals.
The Lady Mavs had a 13-8 advantage in points off turnovers and had a big advantage in fast break points, 16-4. Wyoming had a 7-4 edge in second-chance points and a 22-14 spread in points in the paint. Both teams got 13 points from their benches.
Up next for the Cowgirls will be their second of three consecutive road contests. Wyoming travels to face Santa Clara at 7 p.m., Mountain Time, Friday.
