Gavin Gores Named Old Trapper Mountain West Freshman of the Week

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming forward Gavin Gores was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday. It marks back-to-back week’s that a Wyoming freshman has won the award after Nasir (Naz) Meyer did so in the opening week of the season.

 

Gores, a native of Cumberland, Wisc. averaged 9.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per night. He recorded a career-high 10 points against Austin Peay and added nine points against Portland. Against the Pilots, Gores recorded a career-high six rebounds.

 

He has helped lead the Cowboys to a 4-0 record to open the season for the best start since the 2021-22 season. Wyoming plays at Sam Houston State on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. MT on ESPN+.

Gores was rated as a three-start recruit by 247sports.com. He is the 46th ranked power forward in the class and was the sixth ranked recruit in Wisconsin. Gores was an All-State selection  the last seasons.  As a senior he averaged 34.1 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game and led his team to a sectional final. In 103 games, Gores tallied 2,360 points, 1,108 rebounds, 174 assists, and 119 blocks. His 920 points as a senior season tied for the 13th single season scoring in state history, while the 2,360 career points lands him inside the top 20 all-time. Gores was named All-UA Rise First Team.  He was also recruited by Illinois, Illinois State and North Dakota State.
