Wyoming Falls to Colorado Despite Late-Game Fight
First Quarter
Wyoming received the opening kick and moved the ball into Colorado Territory. Two key pass interference penalties were called against Colorado, which extended the drive. However, Wyoming stalled and was forced to punt. Colorado answered with some short passes and a 17-yard scramble by quarterback Kaidon Salter. The Wyoming defense was able to hold strong, aided by a sack from Brayden Wilson. Wyoming got the ball back, and penalties extended the drive. Colorado got the ball back and pushed inside the Wyoming 30-yard line late, but the Pokes held…but not for long.
Score: 0–0.
Second Quarter
On the opening play of the second quarter, Salter threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Omarion Miller. After the point-after attempt, the score was Colorado 7-0. Wyoming responded with a nice 50-yard run by running back Samuel “Tote” Harris, but the Pokes were unable to get the ball into the endzone, settling with a field goal by Erik Sandvick, score Colorado 7-3. Colorado began to pull away after that. A 68-yard touchdown pass from Salter to Sincere Brown added a TD to the board. Another one-yard rushing TD by Simeon Price followed by the PAT. Wyoming didn’t have an answer. The only highlight during Wyoming’s last drive of the half was a 27-yard pass to tight end Evan Svoboda; the drive stalled after that.
Halftime: Colorado 21, Wyoming 3.
Head coach Jay Sawvel:
On the difference between halves:"We were out of rhythm in the first half… we got down 28 to 3 and then all of a sudden started putting some things together offensively and guys were able to relax a little bit and play."
Third Quarter
Colorado opened the second half strong. Salter accounted for two more scores, including a 47-yard touchdown to Joseph Williams. The Buffs were up 28-3 at the point. Wyoming quarterback Kaden Anderson had a nice 41-yard touchdown to Eric Richardson, making the score 28-13. Sadvik made a 38-yard field goal to put the score at Colorado 28-, Wyoming 13. With 1:12 left in the third quarter, Wyoming’s defense caught a spark. Dainsus Miller punched the ball out of CU rusher Micah Welsh on a 44-yard gain, causing the ball to fumble. Justin Taylor recovered the ball at the Wyoming 1-yard line.
Dansus Miller on causing the fumble:
“So, I think I have a route in front of me, so I drove the route… When I turned my head, I saw him running to the end zone. I just went for the punch. I saw him switch it and then I just went for the punch.”

Score: Colorado 28, Wyoming 13.
Fourth Quarter
Despite the big defensive play that gave the offense possession of the ball, they couldn’t capitalize on it. Anderson was sacked in the end zone for a safety. Colorado couldn’t do anything with their possession; Wyoming got the ball back. Wyoming responded with a touchdown pass from Anderson to Chris Durr Jr. Wyoming got some stops, but Salter had a 35-yard rushing touchdown to seal the deal.
Final score: Colorado 37, Wyoming 20.
Jay Sawvel postgame quotables:
On defensive struggles:
"Let's just be honest…We didn’t do a good job of finishing plays."
On Sam Harris:
"Sam Harris, here's what I'll tell you. The guy's a good football player… you watch him play and you can see why the guy's going to be a really good player."
On his exchange with Deion Sanders:
"I just wished him luck… I’m a big fan of Deion Sanders."
On left tackle concerns:
"Of course I'm concerned… that's where the safety happened, right?… That’s obviously a concern and we'll see what happened with Nate [Geiger]."
