ABOUT THE COWGIRLS

Wyoming closed its road slate Saturday with a loss at Mountain West champion San Diego State. Jane Rumpf had a monster game against the Aztecs, exploding for a career-high 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting and went 6-of-10 from 3-point range. Since becoming a starter the last 16 games, Rumpf is averaging 11.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting nearly 36-percent from 3-point range and is making 2.7 3-pointers per game during that stretch. As a starter, Rumpf has seven games where she has scored in double figures, including two 20-plus point games and double-doubles.

Rumpf and Heidur Karlsdottir are first and third, respectively in the league during conference play averaging 1.7 and 1.7 blocks per game, respectively. Wyoming also features the league’s top scorer in MW action in Pedersen, who could become just the third Cowgirl in Mountain West history and second consecutive Cowgirl to win the league’s scoring crown. Pedersen has scored seven more points than Air Force’s Milahnie Perry, who is second this season in scoring and is plus-13 of UNLV’s Meadow Roland, who sits in third.

UW leads the league in blocks per game, averaging four a contest as a team. In league play, the Cowgirls are blocking 4.5 per game. Wyoming is second in the conference averaging 14 assists per game and have assisted on 65.7-percent of its field goals this season. Four Cowgirls average at least two assists per game and are led by Payton Muma’s 2.7 a contest. Muma is ninth in the league in assists.

SCOUTING GRAND CANYON

Grand Canyon is averaging 64.9 points per game and is allowing 65.2 a contest. The Lopes are shooting nearly 40-percent from the floor and 29.5-percent from 3-point range. Opponents are shooting 41.3-percent overall and 30.4-percent from beyond-the-arc. GCU is sensational at the line as a team, shooting 76-percent. The Lopes are plus-2.8 in rebounding margin and are averaging 13.3 assists per game. Grand Canyon forces over 17 turnovers per game but commits 18.2 itself.

Chloe Mann and Julianna Lamendola lead the team averaging 12.8 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Mann leads the team averaging 3.1 assists per game while Lamendola leads the Lopes with 6.3 rebounds per contest and 24 blocks. Both lead the team with 40 3-pointers this season are both shooting better than 31-percent from 3-point range. Anisa Jeffries leads Grand Canyon with 48 steals.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST GRAND CANYON

Grand Canyon won this season’s first meeting, 57-47 in Phoenix to close January. That was the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Pedersen scored 20 points in that loss while off the bench, Karlsdottir had nine points, five boards and three blocks.
