Cowgirls Host Border War Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Cowgirls return to action Saturday, February 21 for a 2 p.m., contest against Colorado State. Saturday will be the second round of the Border War this season and will be the final meeting between the two schools as members of the same conference.


Saturday’s game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle and Jennifer Aadland on the call.

 


ABOUT THE COWGIRLS

Wyoming is coming off a heartbreaking 56-54 loss to Boise State last Saturday in Laramie. The Broncos scored the final five points of the contest, including the go-ahead layup with under 15 seconds to play to escape with the victory. Henna Sandvik recorded her first-career double-double in the loss with 13 points and 10 rebounds.


Malene Pedersen also scored in double figures and has now scored 10-plus points in 45 consecutive games, the fourth-longest active streak in the country and the fourth-longest streak in Mountain West history. Pedersen ranks in the top three in the conference in field goal percentage (3rd, 44.1-percent), field goals made (1st, 154), points (1st, 420), points per game (2nd, 16.8), 3-point percentage (2nd, 35.5-percent) and 3-pointers per game (2nd, 2.0). She is also top 10 in program history in career points with 1,634, made field goals with 610, 162 3-pointers made and 126 career games played at UW.


The Cowgirls continue to share the ball effectively this season, assisting on 65.6-percent of their field goals this season. UW is second in the MW averaging 14 assists per game and have four players averaging at least 2.1 assists per game. Payton Muma leads the way with 2.6 per contest. As a team, the Cowgirls rank in the top-half of the conference in six other statistical categories and now lead the league in blocks per game with 3.8 a contest.


SCOUTING COLORADO STATE

Colorado State has the best scoring margin in the Mountain West this season, entering Saturday plus 11.3 as it averages 66.9 points per game while allowing a league-best 55.6 a contest. The Rams shoot the ball at nearly 42-percent as a team from the floor and make 33-percent of their 3-point attempts. CSU’s opponents are shooting just 36.3-percent from the field and 30.2-percent from beyond-the-arc. Colorado State is second in the league with a plus-3.48 turnover margin while its 1.15 assist-to-turnover ratio is best in the conference. The Rams commit just 10.4 turnovers per contest and have a plus rebounding margin.


Lexus Bargesser leads CSU and is third in the league in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game. Bargesser leads the Rams with 80 assists and 18 blocks and is second on the team with 37 steals and averaging 5.8 rebounds per game. Kloe Froebe and Brooke Carlson also average in double figures in 2025-26, averaging 10.5 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Hannah Ronsiek leads the squad with 47 steals this season while Froebe leads the Rams with 6.1 rebounds per contest. Carlson is second on the team with 78 assists.


SERIES HISTORY AGAINST COLORADO STATE

Colorado State now leads the all-time series, 59-58, thanks to its win earlier this month in Fort Collins. The Rams won last season’s meeting in Laramie, snapping Wyoming’s three-game winning streak at home in the series. The Cowgirls are 32-22 all-time against CSU at home.
