Battle in Lubbock: Wyoming Set to Challenge Texas Tech's Sharpshooters Tonight

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 10, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowboys (2-0 overall) hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to Texas Tech on Wednesday evening inside United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. The contest set for 6 p.m. start on ESPN+ will be against a familiar face with former UW head coach Jeff Linder on staff for the Red Raiders.

 

Fans can listen to the contest and follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, with Keith Kelly on the call alongside Kevin McKinney.

 

About The Teams

Wyoming enters the contest 2-0 in the young season with wins over Concordia, St. Paul, and Tennessee State. The Pokes are shooting 53 percent from the field to rank second in the conference and No. 40 in the nation. Defensively, the Cowboys hold opponents to 38 percent for third in the MW. Wyoming is grabbing 45.5 rebounds per game and are recording 18.5 assists per night for third in the MW and No. 57 in the nation.

 

Texas Tech heads into the contest with a 2-0 record with wins over Bethune-Cookman by a score of 94-61 and Northwestern State by a mark of 86-65. TTU is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches’ Poll. Former Cowboy head coach Jeff Linder is an assistant with the Red Raiders. He led Wyoming to the NCAA Tournament in 2022. Texas Tech averages 90 points per game and allows 63 per night. TTU shoots 54 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc.

 

About The Players

Wyoming is led in scoring this season by guard Obi Agbim, who is averaging 24.5 points per game. He is shooting 65.5 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from behind the arc. He also leads the team with 4.5 assists per game. Jordan Nesbitt adds 13 points per night and 11.5 rebounds per game. Scottie Ebube and Kobe Newton add 11 points per game. Newton also adds four assists per game.

 

Texas Tech is led in scoring by New Mexico Transfer JT Toppin at 22 points per game and 7.5 rebounds. He is shooting 78 percent from the field. Kerwin Walton adds 16 points per game and shoots 53 percent from behind the arc. Darrion Williams adds 9.5 assists per game to lead the team.

 

About The Series

The Cowboys and Red Raiders will meet for the 13th time on Wednesday. The series started in 1940, but the two teams will meet for the first time since Wyoming won 67-62 on Dec. 14, 2002, at the Casper Shootout. The Pokes hold a 7-5 lead in the all-time series.
