Wyoming’s Future on Display in Annual Brown and Gold Scrimmage

The annual spring “Brown and Gold” game took place in War Memorial Stadium in Laramie last Saturday. It was a picturesque day with sunshine and weather in the 60’s. A far cry from the snowy weather that hit Wyoming the week before. By the time the whistle blew, the Gold team won by a score of 21 to 7 over the Brown team.
Brown Team Recap
Quarterback Mason Drube led the way, completing 16 of 29 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, including a 47-yard completion, despite being intercepted once and sacked twice. Presumed starter Kaden Anderson went 8-for-12 for 50 yards, though he also threw a pick and was sacked twice.
On the ground, Dontae Burch led with 27 yards on three carries, averaging 9.0 yards per carry. Tyler Nystrom added an impressive 18-yard run on his lone carry. Terron Kellman and Chris Durr chipped in with short gains, helping keep the offense on schedule.
Durr was also the top receiver for the Brown team with seven receptions (29 yards), while Jaylen Sargent (79 yards) and Jackson Holman (37 yards) each added four catches. Kellman showed his versatility with three receptions (26 yards) out of the backfield.
On special teams, punter Erik Sandvik delivered five punts for 198 yards, averaging 39.6 yards, with a long of 45.
Defensively, Dash Bauman and Gary Rutherford led the charge with 11 tackles apiece. Bauman added a sack and two tackles for loss, while Isaac Sell and B.J. Inmon each contributed four tackles, with Sell also picking up a sack.
Gold Team Recap
Running back Nico Hamilton carried the load on the ground with 17 carries for 73 yards, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. Though he didn’t reach the end zone, his consistent gains helped sustain drives. Nikos Varelas, Brice Brantley, and Deion DeBlanc also contributed with limited touches.
In the passing game, Landon Sims completed 14 of 20 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions and was sacked three times. Gage Brook had a clean showing, going 5-for-6 for 51 yards and a touchdown, with a long of 24 yards and one sack.
The receiving effort was spread out, with Deion DeBlanc 6 receptions (48 yards), Jaylen Bean 4 receptions (32 yards, one touchdown), Isaac Schoenfeld 3 receptions (28 yards, one touchdown), and Nikos Varelas 2 receptions (49 yards).
On special teams, Gavyn Helm delivered a strong performance, averaging 45.0 yards over three punts (135 total yards).
Defensively, Evan Eller stood out with nine total tackles, including a sack and a tackle for loss. Brooklyn Cheek, Tyson Deen, and Brayden Johnson each added four tackles.
Standouts:

*Keep in mind that starters were withheld from play partially, and some did not play at all.
