Numbers Game: Wyoming at New Mexico

In Wyoming's 49-45 win over New Mexico, both teams put on an impressive offensive show with explosive rushing performances and high total yardage. Here’s how the stats compare:


Overall Team Stats

  • Total Yards: Wyoming led with 604 yards, while New Mexico was close with 576 yards.

  • Passing Yards: Wyoming dominated in the air with 342 yards compared to New Mexico's 164 yards.

  • Rushing Yards: New Mexico took the edge with 412 rushing yards, powered by significant plays, while Wyoming totaled 262 yards on the ground.

  • Penalties: Wyoming had 6 penalties for 50 yards, and New Mexico had 7 for 65 yards.

  • First Downs: Wyoming achieved 31 first downs to New Mexico's 22.

  • Time of Possession: Wyoming controlled the clock at 37:13 compared to New Mexico's 22:47.

Offensive Efficiency

  • Third-Down Conversions: Wyoming converted 9 of 15 third-down attempts (60%), while New Mexico converted 4 of 10 (40%).

Key Individual Performances


Wyoming

  • Passing: Quarterback Kaden Anderson completed 20 of 29 passes for 342 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception (69% completion, 195.3 rating).

  • Rushing: Harrison Waylee was Wyoming’s top rusher, gaining 170 yards on 27 carries (6.3 avg) with one touchdown.

  • Receiving: Jaylen Sargent was outstanding, catching six passes for 186 yards and one touchdown, including a long 68-yard reception.

New Mexico

  • Passing: QB Devin Dampier completed 16 of 31 passes for 164 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

  • Rushing: Dampier led New Mexico’s rushing with an astonishing 207 yards on 12 carries (17.3 avg) and three touchdowns, including an 85-yard breakaway. Estevan Sanders added 205 yards on 17 carries (12.1 avg) and two touchdowns.

  • Receiving: RJ Davis led New Mexico’s receivers with six receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.


Defensive Highlights

  • Wyoming: Recorded 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss (TFL).

  • New Mexico: Registered 3 TFLs but no sacks.


Wyoming Defense

  • Tackles: Wyoming recorded 49 total tackles, with 31 being solo. Isaac White led with eight total tackles (4 solo).

  • Sacks & Tackles for Loss (TFL): Wyoming had one sack and one TFL, both made by DE Tyce Westland, who also forced a fumble.

  • Turnovers: Wyoming’s Wrook Brown (LB) recorded the game's only interception. Westland also recovered a fumble, giving Wyoming an extra possession.

  • Pass Breakups and Quarterback Hits: Wyoming had two pass breakups from CB Keany Parks and LB Conor Shay. DT Jordan Bertagnole contributed a QB hurry, putting pressure on New Mexico’s offense.


New Mexico Defense

  • Tackles: New Mexico's defense was active with 88 total tackles, 42 of which were solo. CB N. Avinger led all players with 15 tackles (7 solo), followed by CB N. Williams with 12 tackles (9 solo).

  • TFLs: New Mexico registered three TFLs but no sacks, relying on DL G. Lopez, DL A. Harris Jr., and LB J. Wilson to create backfield disruption.

  • Turnovers: New Mexico managed one interception by CB N. Avinger, who also had a pass breakup.

  • Pass Breakups and Quarterback Hits: New Mexico tallied two pass breakups, with Avinger and CB N. Pola-Gates each contributing one. New Mexico also had 3 QB hurries, primarily from G. Lopez and K. Drake.
