CHEYENNE, Wyo. - July 11, 2025 - Starting this month, the second Wednesday of every month will have a little more Wyoming pride. Life is better with Brown and Gold anyway :)

Governor Mark Gordon has signed Enrolled Act No. 78, officially designating the second Wednesday of each month as “Wyoming Wednesday - Brown and Gold Day.” This new state-recognized commemorative day encourages residents across the state to wear brown and gold - the official colors of the University of Wyoming and a strong symbol of state identity.

The bill, originally introduced as HB0246 during the 2025 General Session, was sponsored by Representative Styvar and co-sponsored by Representatives Angelos, Brown L, Geringer, Wasserburger, and Williams, along with Senators Boner and Smith D. The law was adopted on March 12, 2025, and took effect on July 1, 2025.

According to the newly added W.S. 8‑4‑118, the purpose of Wyoming Wednesday is to celebrate the spirit of the Equality State and foster Poke pride statewide. While participation is voluntary, residents are encouraged to proudly wear brown and gold each month in recognition of the day.

Earlier this week, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon stated on social media: "Happy Wyoming Wednesday! Earlier this week I signed a proclamation recognizing the first oficial "Wyoming Wednesday", which was signed into law earlier this year. This was a student-led initiative that invites Wyomingites to wear brown and gold on the second Wednesday of each month to celebrate our great state and help unite our communities."

In addition, the governor is tasked with issuing an annual proclamation in advance of a Wyoming Wednesday, starting no later than July 10, 2025 and each year thereafter, to promote observance and awareness across the state.

The legislation makes clear that Wyoming Wednesday is purely symbolic - it does not constitute a legal holiday. Schools, government offices, and businesses will remain open, and the designation does not affect contracts, judicial proceedings, or other formal activities.

Even though it’s not a day off (don't we all wish?), Wyoming Wednesday will be a visible and unifying celebration of state pride. Expect to see a lot more brown and gold around town every second Wednesday - whether at the office, in classrooms, or out in Wyoming’s wide-open communities.

So, dust off that Pokes hoodie or your favorite UW hat - Wyoming Wednesday is officially here.
