Former University of Wyoming tight end John Michael Gyllenborg has been invited to the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. The combine will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium from February 23rd to March 2nd, and will be televised on the NFL Network.
The combine invite comes on the heels of invitations to both the East-West Shrine Bowl, and the Panini Senior Bowl. Gyllenborg will play in the Senior Bowl which will be played on January 31st, 2026 in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.
The Senior Bowl is considered by most as the most prestigious all-star game, and features the top NFL prospects, which is an important link in the draft process. It gives all 32 teams the opportunity to see prospects up close in a game-week scenario, with the culmination being the game. The next step is the NFL Scouting Combine, for those who get invited…this is where all 32 teams have a chance to do full interviews, medical exams, tests, and drills. The next step will be the University of Wyoming Pro Day, where select teams will send scouts to watch UW players on campus participate in drills and conduct interviews. UW Pro Day will be a chance for all players eligible to show their skills. The final step will be the NFL Draft.
A native of Leawood, Kansas, 6’5” John Michael has one of the most unique stories in college football. He played in only three and a half high school football games, yet he earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Wyoming.
At Wyoming, Gyllenborg had a productive career. He played in 43 games from 2022–25. After a quiet freshman season in 2022 with just three catches for 21 yards, Gyllenborg broke out as a sophomore in 2023, hauling in 23 receptions for 360 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 15.7 yards per catch. His best statistical season came in 2024, when he posted career highs with 30 receptions for 425 yards and three scores in only nine games, averaging 47.2 yards per game. As a senior in 2025, he added 24 catches for 217 yards and one touchdown. Gyllenborg finished his Wyoming career with 80 receptions for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 12.8 yards per catch. Scouts are looking at Gyllenborg’s measurables and his football ability, especially how often he is open on the field…even when the ball was not passed to him.
Gyllenborg remained loyal and true to the Wyoming football program even when money was being waved in his face. Several power-4 teams tried to entice him with six-figure NIL offers, but he remained a Cowboy throughout his NCAA football career. John Michael graduated with his bachelor's and master's degrees.
