The Wyoming Cowboys added another running back weapon on Wednesday with the signing of junior transfer running back Damashja Harris, who joins the program after stops at North Texas and Lamar University. Harris stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 224 pounds, bringing size, speed, and versatility to the Cowboys’ offense and special teams. His height mirrors that of projected starter Sam Scott.
Hometown:Â Native of Tallahassee, Florida.
2024 Season (North Texas):
Played as a running back before a season-ending injury.
In 3 games: 193 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on 22 carries.
Career-high 142 rushing yards on 10 carries vs. Stephen F. Austin, including an 80-yard TD (longest rush of the season for North Texas).
4 receptions for 7 yards against Texas Tech.
Missed game vs. Wyoming due to injury.
2021–2023 Seasons (Lamar University):
2023:
Named Dave Campbell’s All-Texas Team Specialist of the Year (non-FBS).
First Team All-Southland Conference.
Led Southland Conference with 19 kick returns for 509 yards and 1 TD (26.8 avg.).
Rushed 65 times for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns.
2022:
Phil Steele First Team All-Southland Conference kick returner.
SLC Special Teams Player of the Week after a 100-yard kickoff return TD vs. Houston Christian (school record).
Rushed for 200 yards on 54 carries; made 2 starts.
2020 Season:
Appeared in 4 games; retained redshirt eligibility.
High School (Ellison HS, Killeen, TX):
Rushed for 1,459 yards and 12 touchdowns on 195 carries as a senior.
Earned Second Team All-District honors.
Also competed in basketball and track and field.
It appears Wyoming got an insurance policy for the running back room after losing several key running backs during the offseason. With talent already there, this group seems to be locked and loaded as they head into summer workouts. Additionally, this signing further makes a statement of a run-heavy team.
