Former University of Wyoming linebacker Chad Muma will play in the Super Bowl for the New England Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks this evening. Muma’s path to the Super Bowl has been filled with ups and downs.

Built Through Adversity

In seventh grade, he experienced weight loss, which led to a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. The diagnosis was life-changing and taught him a lot about adversity. At Legend High School, Muma excelled in multiple sports, including football, basketball, and track, while earning accolades.

A Wyoming Cowboy Through and Through

How did Muma end up playing for the Pokes? He chose Wyoming over several other offers, continuing a family legacy in Laramie. His father, Ty Muma, played football in the early 90’s. His sister, Payton Muma, transferred to the women’s basketball team in 2025 after spending time at Gonzaga.

Will Payton be at the Super Bowl to cheer on her brother? Yes.

After contributing on special teams as a freshman, he grew into one of the most productive linebackers in program history.

During his junior season, Muma led the Cowboys in tackles and earned first-team All-Mountain West honors. His senior year cemented his legacy: 142 tackles, three interceptions, and national recognition as a Butkus Award finalist.

The NFL Grind

In 2022, Muma played in the Senior Bowl and also participated in the NFL Combine. Muma got the call in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He appeared in 50 games over three seasons and contributed on defense and special teams, joining former Wyoming teammate Andrew “Dewey” Wingard.

After being waived in 2025, Muma signed with the Indianapolis Colts and was added to the New England Patriots' active roster in December 2025.

The Biggest Stage

Muma has two tackles in the Patriots' playoff run and should see action today. He’s living a dream that everyone who plays football strives for… playing in a Super Bowl.
