Cowboys Take Northern Colorado in Gillette on Sunday

Laramie, Wyo. – The Wyoming Cowboys will open the exhibition portion of the schedule on Sunday with a contest against Northern Colorado at 2 p.m. inside the Pronghorn Center in Gillette, Wyoming.

The game will not be streamed or. televised, but can be heard on the Cowboy Sports Network with Keith Kelley on the call alongside Kevin McKinney.

The title sponsors of the event are Campbell County Health, Cyclone Drilling, Inc. and M&K Oil Company.

Game sponsors include White's Frontier Motors, Summit OBGYN & Rodney Biggs MD, PC, Hand & Physical Therapy, First Interstate Bank – Gillette and Employment Testing Center of Wyoming.

Contributing sponsors include ERA Priority, Lubnau Law, Earth Work Solutions, Dental Care Center, Inc., Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites – Gillette and the Prime Rib Restaurant.

It marks the second-straight season the two teams have met in an exhibition contest in Gillette, as the contest features former college teammates in Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks along with Bears coach Steve Smiley. The wrinkle to this season’s contest features

UW freshman guard Madden Smiley will face his father in his first collegiate action.


The Cowboys were picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West Preseason Poll released on Wednesday at the conference’s annual Media Day.


Wyoming welcomes back a pair of starters in guards Nasir (Naz) Meyer and Khaden Bennett. Meyer averaged 12.9 points per game last season with Bennett adding 10.2 points per night. Both led the team adding 4.9 rebounds per game.

The Pokes also have a pair of key contributors returning in forward Gavin Gores and guard Uriyah Rojas along with redshirt forward Neil Summers. Gores added 7.3 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. Rojas added 6.2 points per game and 1.7 helpers per night.

Wyoming also welcomes 10 newcomers to the roster, which includes six transfers along with four high school players and one international player.

Wyoming returns over 45% of its scoring and 40% of its rebounding from four returners.

Wyoming won 18 games last season and made the National Invitation Tournament for the first postseason action for the Brown and Gold since 2021-22. It was also the first time Wyoming has played in the NIT since 2003.

The Bears were 20-12 overall last season and were 10-8 in Big Sky. UNC top returner is Langston Reynolds, as spent the first three years of his career at Northern Colorado before playing the 2025-26 season at Minnesota. Across 125 collegiate games, including 63 starts, he has totaled 1,171 points, 426 rebounds and 330 assists.
