Cowboy head coach Craig Bohl hinted that there could be more than the traditional 4 captains during his final fall camp press conference on Friday, August 25th. His hints turned out to be correct, with the Pokes boasting 6 team captains composed of 3 captains on offense, and 3 on defense. This move shouldn't surprise fans, as Bohl has stated his admiration for his mature team's outstanding leadership during numerous press conferences this year.

4 of the 2023 team captains will remain the same from 2022:

Easton Gibbs, Jr., Linebacker (Defense)

Cole Godbout, Gr.. Nose Tackle (Defense)

Andrew Peasley, Gr., Quarterback (Offense)

Treyton Welch, Gr. Tight End (Offense)

There are 2 additional captains named for 2023:

Wyatt Wieland, Gr., Slot Receiver (Offense)

Jordan Bertagnole, Jr., Defensive Tackle (Defense)

Let's Introduce you to your 2023 Wyoming Football Team Captains!

Easton Gibbs, Jr., Linebacker : One Last Ride

Linebacker Easton Gibbs' resume speaks for itself. With too many preseason awards to list, it's safe to say that Gibbs is well respected as one of the nation's top linebackers. Easton has been very humble about the accolades when I spoke to him earlier this month. Easton also played through injury during the 2022 season. Standing at 6'2" and weighing in at 230 pounds, the Temecula, California product will be a force to be reckoned with throughout the season. Although Gibbs has 1 more year of eligibility, 2023 will be Easton's "Last Ride" as he announced his plans to pursue his NFL dream last month at Mountain West Media Days. I anticipate that Easton will be a household name in the coming years.

Cole Godbout, Gr., Nose Tackle (Defense): One Last Ride

Nose tackle Cole Godbout also comes into the 2023 season with preseason awards and a watchlist. The 6'4" 290-pound nose tackle from Hudson, Wisconsin has shown what it means to be "Cowboy Tough". Godbout has started every game he has played in throughout his career at Wyoming. His 2022 season was hampered due to a foot injury suffered against San Jose State that caused him to miss the 6 final regular season games. Godbout did appear in the Barstool Arizona Bowl. Godbout is anticipated to have a great season, he also likely has interest from NFL teams, and will also be a household name in the coming years. Heading into 2023, Godbout has played in 38 games, he has racked up 91 solo tackles with 167 total tackles, including 21.5 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, and 8 passes defended. Godbout also features a "Sack Dance" that is absolutely amazing, and we certainly hope to see lots of those dances this year.

Andrew Peasley, Gr., Quarterback (Offense): One Last Ride

2022 Utah State Transfer QB Andrew Peasley stands at 6'2" and weighs in at 218 pounds hailing from La Grande, Oregon. Peasley started the 2022 season for the Pokes, playing in 12 games with 12 starts, missing one game due to injury. He was 144-of-275 passing for the season with a total of 1,574 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

Treyton Welch, Gr. Tight End (Offense): One Last Ride

Tight end Treyton Welch hails from Buffalo, Minnesota, he stands at 6'3", and weighs in at 241 pounds. Welch has also received academic and personal awards throughout his career at Wyoming. Treyton has been a key piece in blocking lanes for Wyoming's hard-nosed run game throughout his career. Treyton comes into 2023 with 37 games played, 46 receptions totaling 566 yards, and 7 touchdowns.

Wyatt Wieland, Gr., Slot Receiver (Offense): One Last Ride

Wide receiver Wyatt Wieland stands at 6'1" and weighs in at 207 pounds. Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Wieland enters the 2023 season with 36 games played, 27 receptions for 359 yards total, and 1 touchdown. Wieland is also a key member of the special teams. On special teams, Wyatt has had 7 kickoff returns for 168 yards. Additionally, He has 2 special teams touchdowns and 6 tackles.

Jordan Bertagnole, Jr., Defensive Tackle (Defense)

Defensive tackle Jordan Bertagnole is not only the youngest captain on the team, but he is also the only captain who is a Wyoming native. Bertagnole hails from Casper, Wyoming, stands at 6'4", and weighs in at 287 pounds. As with all captains listed, Jordan has a full resume of accomplishments. Jordan enters the 2023 season with 30 games played, 57 solo tackles as well as 63 assisted tackles for a total of 120 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 fumbles recovered. Bertagnole played high school football under Natrona County High School head coach Steve Harshman. Harshman has sent several excellent players to the Wyoming football program, including Cincinnati Bengal linebacker Logan Wilson of the NFL.
