By the Numbers: Wyoming’s 27-10 win over Hawai‘i
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming put together its most complete performance of the young season Saturday, beating Hawai‘i 27-10 at War Memorial Stadium.
The Cowboys improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in Mountain West play, but the final score only tells part of the story. Wyoming controlled the football, established its running game, protected the ball and kept Hawai‘i out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.

Here’s a look at the win by the numbers:
387 - Total yards for Wyoming.
The Cowboys finished with 387 yards on 61 offensive plays, averaging 6.3 yards per snap. Hawai‘i had 328 yards on 68 plays, averaging 4.8 yards per play.
183 - Rushing yards for Wyoming.
Wyoming ran 38 times for 183 yards, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. The Cowboys scored all three of their touchdowns on the ground. Hawai‘i was held to 102 rushing yards on 24 attempts.
94 - Rushing yards for Samuel “Tote” Harris.
Harris led Wyoming with 94 yards on 11 carries, an average of 8.5 yards per attempt. His longest run went for 31 yards, and he capped the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
87 - Rushing yards for Markell Holman.
Holman carried 15 times for 87 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and an 18-yard run early in the fourth. Holman and Harris combined for 181 of Wyoming's 183 rushing yards.
17-of-23 - Tyler Hughes.
Hughes completed 17 of 23 passes for 204 yards. He played a clean game overall. He averaged 8.9 yards per attempt and completed 73.9 percent of his passes.
0 - Wyoming turnovers.
After turnovers were a major issue through the first three games, the Cowboys played turnover-free football Saturday. Wyoming didn't throw an interception and didn't lose a fumble.
32:03 - Wyoming's time of possession.
The Cowboys held the football for more than 32 minutes, compared with 27:57 for Hawai‘i. That included 9:05 of possession in the first quarter and 9:15 in the third.
23 - First downs.
Wyoming finished with 23 first downs, including 10 rushing and 11 passing. Hawai‘i had 22.
6-of-12 - Third downs.
Wyoming converted half of its third-down opportunities. Hawai‘i finished 5-of-14. The Cowboys didn’t attempt any fourth-down plays, while Hawai‘i went 2-of-4.
5-of-5 - Red-zone scoring.
Wyoming came away with points on all five of its trips inside the Hawai‘i 20. Three ended in touchdowns and two ended with Erik Sandvik field goals. Hawai‘i scored on two of its four red-zone opportunities.
99 - Yards on Wyoming's third-quarter drive.
After Hawai‘i drove deep into Wyoming territory but was stopped on fourth down, the Cowboys answered by going the length of the field. The possession carried into the fourth quarter and ended with Holman's second touchdown, pushing Wyoming's lead to 20-3.
3 - Rushing touchdowns.
Holman scored twice and Harris once. Wyoming entered the fourth quarter leading 13-3 before the two backs each found the end zone over the final 15 minutes.
2-for-2 - Erik Sandvik on field goals.
Sandvik connected from 28 and 23 yards and made all three extra points, accounting for nine of Wyoming's 27 points. Sandvik hasn’t missed a field goal or an extra point this season.
226 - Passing yards allowed.
Hawai‘i quarterback Micah Alejado completed 28 of 44 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown. Wyoming limited him to just 5.1 yards per attempt despite Hawai‘i throwing 44 times.
10 - Points allowed.
Hawai‘i managed a field goal in the first quarter and didn't score again until 12:11 remained in the fourth. The Rainbow Warriors trailed 20-3 on their first possession of the fourth quarter.
20,999 - Attendance.
Nearly 20,000 fans attended Wyoming's Homecoming win at War Memorial Stadium.
2-0 - Home Record.
Wyoming is 2-0 at home this year.
27-10 - Final.
Wyoming scored the game's final touchdown with 1:46 remaining when Harris broke loose for an 18-yard score, putting the finishing touches on the Cowboys' first Mountain West win of the season.
