PokesNews.com key to the game #1:
Contain Angel Flores. Central Michigan’s quarterback rushed for 122 yards against Colgate, including a 50-yard touchdown. Wyoming must keep him from escaping for big gains while staying alert for play action. CMU has utilized three QBs so far this season. Don't expect that to change.
32
Passing yards for Central Michigan. Yes, you read that right!
That number represents just how committed the Chippewas were to winning on the ground. Flores completed only 4 of 7 passes for 32 yards. Again...yes you read that right!
Central Michigan still produced 371 yards of total offense and 20 first downs. Eighteen of those first downs came on the ground.
35:48
Central Michigan's time of possession.
Wyoming possessed the ball for just 24:12.
The difference was particularly striking in the second quarter. Central Michigan held the football for 12:05, compared with just 2:55 for Wyoming, while turning a 3-0 lead into a 17-0 halftime advantage.
17
Points Wyoming trailed by at halftime.
Central Michigan led 3-0 after the first quarter before Flores scored twice in the second.
Wyoming finally got on the scoreboard when Erik Sandvik connected on a 37-yard field goal with 6:13 remaining in the third quarter. Markell Holman scored Wyoming's only touchdown on a six-yard run with 14:56 remaining in the game.
78
Rushing yards for Tyler Hughes.
The Wyoming quarterback was the Cowboys' leading rusher, carrying the ball 10 times for 78 yards and averaging 7.8 yards per attempt. His longest run went for 21 yards.
Hughes again showed off his wheels, accounting for nearly half of Wyoming's 162 rushing yards.
173
Passing yards for Hughes.
Hughes completed 14 of 30 passes for 173 yards. He did not throw a touchdown and threw two interceptions, one under duress.
Punter Bart Edmiston Jr. completed his only pass on a trick punt play for seven yards, giving Wyoming 180 passing yards for the afternoon.
95
Tight end Kyle Frendt's receiving yards.
The 6-foot-5, 236-pound sophomore tight end was Wyoming's most productive receiver, catching all four targets for 95 yards. His 39-yard reception was Wyoming's longest pass play of the game, and he gained 47 yards after the catch. That's right, he caught 100% of the passes thrown his way.
Tight end Jake Wilson caught four passes for 31 yards, running back Samuel "Tote" Harris had three catches for 13 yards, and wide receiver Eric Richardson caught two for 30.
10
Targets for Wilson.
Tight end Jake Wilson tied Frendt for the team lead with four receptions, but Wyoming targeted him 10 times. Wilson had some trouble hanging onto the ball; it's unclear whether it was weather-related.
No other Cowboy was targeted more than four times.
2
Interceptions thrown by Wyoming.
Central Michigan's Justin Taylor (and a former Wyoming Cowboy) and Kameran Hayward each intercepted Hughes. Taylor returned his interception 18 yards, while Hayward had no return yardage.
Wyoming did not force a turnover.

The Cowboys came away with points on only two of them, scoring one touchdown and kicking one field goal.
Central Michigan went 2-for-2 in the red zone.
3-for-3
Central Michigan's fourth-down conversion rate.
The Chippewas converted every fourth-down opportunity they faced. Wyoming finished 1-for-2.
The Cowboys were better on third down, converting 6 of 13 opportunities compared with Central Michigan's 5 of 13, but the Chippewas repeatedly extended possessions when facing fourth down.
13
Tackles by Gary Rutherford.
The sophomore linebacker led Wyoming with 13 tackles, including two solo stops and 11 assists.
Dash Bauman followed with 12 tackles and a tackle for loss. Dante Drake, Jones Thomas and Jayden Williams each recorded seven tackles.
0
Sacks by either team.
Neither defense recorded a sack. Wyoming also finished without a quarterback sack despite Central Michigan running 66 offensive plays.
29
The difference in total offense.
Despite the lopsided rushing totals and 14-point final margin, Wyoming outgained Central Michigan 371-342.
The Cowboys averaged 5.8 yards per play, slightly better than Central Michigan's 5.6.
But how they accumulated those yards was a big difference. Central Michigan ran seven more offensive plays, controlled the football for nearly 12 additional minutes, converted all three fourth downs and didn't turn the ball over. Wyoming's offense produced 342 yards but managed only 10 points.
2
Punter/placekicker Bart Edminston, Jr. kicked the ball out of bounds twice, first on the opening kickoff when a 64-yard kick from the Wyoming 35 went out at the Central Michigan 1-yard line, and again with two seconds remaining in the second quarter when a 50-yard kick went out at the CMU 15, giving the Chippewas the ball at their own 35-yard line both times
387
387 days - Wyoming’s last road victory came on Aug. 28, 2025, when the Cowboys shut out Akron 10-0. The Cowboys have lost seven consecutive games away from War Memorial Stadium since then. Wyoming’s 24-10 loss at Central Michigan on Sept. 19, 2026, extended the road-win drought to 387 days.
That's one year and 22 days.
1-2
Wyoming's record after three games.
The Cowboys left Mount Pleasant at 1-2, while Central Michigan improved to 2-1. Wyoming trailed 17-0 at halftime, cut the deficit to 17-3 in the third quarter, and eventually made it 24-10 early in the fourth, but the comeback stopped there.
